The 13-year-old girl was eventually rescued by Guntur police on Tuesday. The victim’s ordeal began when she was adopted by a woman identified as Swarna Kumari. The accused woman befriended the girl’s mother in a hospital at the height of the coronavirus pandemic in June last year.
Unfortunately, the victim’s mother succumbed to COVID and the Swarna took control of the victim soon after. She took the girl without her father’s knowledge, according to a report by India Today.
The case came to light after the girl’s father approached police to find his daughter.
On Tuesday, the police arrested 10 men including an engineering student. District police officials also said they also arrested 80 men who were allegedly involved in the crime. Cops say they are also looking for other men who are still at large.
