The Sun exclusively posted photos of Hancock kissing 43-year-old Gina Coladangelo, whom he hired last year with taxpayer money.
In a brief statement, the married father of three apologized for “breaking social distancing guidelines” while responsible for the country’s response to the pandemic. “
“I let people down and I’m so sorry,” he added.
“I remain focused on working to get the country out of this pandemic, and I would be grateful for my family’s confidentiality on this personal matter.”
Critics have again called on Boris Johnson to sack Hancock over the scandal.
But the Prime Minister is also no stranger to the salacious stories about his private life that come out of his public service.
Here are some of the explosive sex scandals that rocked Westminster – from secret adventures to sleazy sexting.
PM’s “most shameful” event
John Major has spoken of bringing politics “back to basics” with traditional values in the 1990s – but revelations of sex and sleaze have continued to come out of his party.
Perhaps the most infamous came in 1994 when MP Stephen Milligan was found dead in his London home.
Milligan’s body was bare except for a pair of pantyhose and a garbage bag over his head with an orange segment in his mouth – the death turned out to be a sexual accident gone awry.
But perhaps the biggest sex scandal involving Major was the one for which he was personally responsible.
In 2002, Edwina Currie published diaries detailing an affair she had with Major between 1984 and 1988 when they were both married to other people.
The adventure began when Currie was a backbencher and Major was the Thatcher government whip.
It ended when Major was promoted to Chief Secretary of the Treasury and it became difficult to avoid the attention of his bodyguards.
“It just wasn’t worth it and it got a lot harder to find dates when we were free and could get together, etc.,” Currie told the BBC.
“It seemed reckless to me to continue. I wrote and I said it.
“We didn’t stop because we didn’t stop caring about each other or enjoying each other’s company. We stopped because I thought it was time to stop – I didn’t want to. “
While Currie says she loved Major and didn’t regret the affair, the ex-PM looked at the adventure differently when it was revealed.
“It is the one event in my life that I am most ashamed of and I feared for a long time that it would be made public,” he said.
“Sex on the family sofa”
John Major isn’t the only Prime Minister to be embarrassed by an embarrassing sex affair.
Boris Johnson has also been at the heart of a slew of business allegations, including when he was in public service.
Earlier this year, American pole dance businesswoman Jennifer Arcuri admitted she had a four-year affair with Johnson while he was mayor of London.
Arcuri, who is 21 years his junior, says she nicknamed him “Alexander the Great” and that he “couldn’t keep his hands on her” on their first date.
At the time, Johnson was married to his ex-wife Marina Wheeler, the mother of their four children.
In explosive comments addressed to The mirror, Arcuri claimed that they had sex on the sofa in the family home and were only minutes away from being caught.
“After we made love… I felt conflicted being there in his family home and seeing him like that, but I couldn’t help but love the feeling of being wanted,” he said. declared Arcuri.
“If I had stayed 10 minutes longer, I would have been in the house when Marina came back. It’s not a great feeling. ”
Arcuri also allegedly asked him to empty his kitchen trash cans after throwing stockings in them.
And she says she sent him topless photos, claiming he said one was “enough for a bishop to cut a hole in a stained-glass window.”
Number 10 declined to comment on the allegations.
Bonks ‘like a wardrobe’
Nicholas Soames, the grandson of Winston Churchill, has once been described by a former MP as the worst sexist in Parliament.
But several women in the House of Commons are said to take revenge for his alleged behavior by referring to a savage comment made about his sexual prowess.
They would have said “click” and would gesture to turn a key in a lock whenever Soames made a rude or vulgar comment.
“We designed the little ‘click’ gesture because his ex-wife had this story to be endeared by Nicholas Soames, it was like having a really big cupboard with a tiny little key falling on you,” said ex-Labor MP Barbara Follett. Told The mirror.
“So we were going to ‘click’ and it would stop.”
Soames dismissed the allegations of sexist behavior as “nonsense.”
Prezza ‘Two shit’
It has been 20 years since John Prescott decorated a voter who pushed him at a campaign rally in Wales.
But he arguably ended up with even more eggs on his face when, in 2006, he admitted to having had a two-year affair with his newspaper secretary.
While serving as Tony Blair’s Deputy Prime Minister, Prescott had an affair with Tracey Temple that began after an office party in 2002.
Temple claimed they would have sex in his office in Whitehall, in a hotel while his wife was downstairs, and at his Grace and Favor apartment in Admiralty Arch paid for by the taxpayer.
Prescott, who has been dubbed “two s ** gs” in the wake of the scandal, admitted the affair took place but denied parts of Temple’s history.
The name jokey was a pun on his earlier nickname “two Jags”, which was given to him after he allegedly used two separate Jaguar cars at one point.
His wife, Pauline, supported him after the affair and the couple have now been married for 50 years.
“Sex in a Chelsea Strip”
The story that led to the fall of David Mellor was one of the most shocking sex scandals – amid a hotly contested field of outrage – in the 1990s.
Tory Mellor was Secretary of State for National Heritage when, in 1992, chilling details of an affair with actor Antonia de Sancha were released.
They understood that he enjoyed making love while wearing a Chelsea band – although de Sancha later admitted that the claim, along with others about toe sucking and spanking, was not true. .
But a real sex affair had taken place, with de Sancha’s owner bugging his own phone lines and then selling the tapes to newspapers as evidence.
At the time, Mellor repeatedly professed his commitment to his wife and he was able to hang on to his job for a few more months.
But he was soon embroiled in yet another scandal when it emerged that he had accepted a free vacation from the glamorous socialite daughter of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) financial director.

“All you will remember about me when I go to my grave is a bloody Chelsea shirt,” he said.
