Former Labor Cabinet Minister Peter Mandelson was pictured with Jeffrey Epstein in his Paris home a year after the billionaire financier was charged with sex crimes.
The unseen photograph, released by The Sun, shows former frontman Tony Blair with Epstein as he blows out candles on a birthday cake.
The photo was reportedly taken inside Epstein’s apartment on Avenue Foch in Paris in August 2006.
This was after Epstein was formally charged with soliciting a woman for prostitution in August 2006.
While police at that time uncovered evidence that he had abused underage girls, an American grand jury refused to indict Epstein for sex with minors.
He eventually pleaded guilty to procuring a child for prostitution in 2008 – after being photographed with Lord Mandelson.
However, before the image was taken, news reports claimed that the tycoon had engaged in sexual acts with minors.
There is no indication that Lord Mandelson was aware of the allegations regarding Epstein at the time the image was taken.

A source told The Sun: “It shows how surprisingly close Peter Mandelson was to Jeffrey Epstein, even as his crimes were exposed.
“Peter definitely has some questions to answer on this.
“It also highlights the warm relationship that Jeffrey, Ghislaine, Prince Andrew and Peter have shared during this time.”
Lord Mandelson is seen in the photo with a glass of wine in front of him. He is wearing a partially unbuttoned shirt.
Lord Mandelson has been approached for comment by MailOnline.

At the time, he was European Trade Commissioner and later served as Business Secretary in Gordon Brown’s government.
The politician was introduced to Epstein by Ghislaine Maxwell, who also introduced Prince Andrew to the billionaire financier.
Maxwell was convicted last month of trafficking young girls to Epstein for abuse.
In 2011, after Epstein was convicted of pedophilia charges, Lord Mandelson appeared in the financier’s ‘little black book’ – a contact file of powerful figures in the world of royalty, politics. , business and celebrities.

Lord Mandelson resigned his post as Member of Parliament in 2004 after twice resigning from the New Labor government, most notably following an investigation into the financial sleaze.
