The revival of the character “Gossip Girl”
The biggest question from the audience when announcing “Gossip Girl” his return was exactly how the mythical character would reappear. Keep in mind that the new show takes place nine years after the original Gossip Girl blog closed, and our favorite socialites have gone on with their lives. In Episode 1 of the reboot, “Just Another Girl on MTA,” that mystery is revealed – with an unexpected answer. In essence, Gossip Girl is revived by the teaching staff at Constance St. Jude (the elite high school our main characters attend), in an effort to regain control over their privileged, unruly students who treat them like the dirt beneath them. shoes.

Instead of renewing the Gossip Girl blog, they opt for a more contemporary platform – Instagram – and get to work. Led by teacher Kate Keller (Tavi gevinson), teachers are entering a new school year with confidence, strength and hope. This massive shift is something that completely changes the power dynamics of “Gossip Girl,” bringing adults into the fold.
This ultimately brings a new element of humor and absurdity to the teen show, which feels fresh and contemporary. The new change also raises the question of who will win in this battle between teachers and students. If we know anything about “Gossip Girl” it’s that control of your account never really stays with one person. Will teachers be able to keep the new superpower they have created?
Episode 2, “She Got A Maybe”, also expands on these bombs revealed in the pilot – giving us a clearer take on the new and improved. HBO Max Restart of “Gossip Girl”.
A mirror of the original cast
When the cast for the reboot was announced, there was a lot of talk about who would be the next Blair, the next Chuck, or the next Dan. And now that the series is finally out, we can see who took on those roles! Of course, this is not a face-to-face, but the new show definitely preserves some of those archetypes, which have become essential to the “Gossip Girl” brand. On the one hand, a newbie to Constance is the outsider Zoya Lott (Peak Whitney) – a studious freshman engaged in liberal politics and other “awakening” activities. Obviously, she’s the reboot’s Dan Humphrey – trying to survive in a school where she has to work to achieve successes that others just get.

Her older sister, originally from New York and celebrity influencer Julien Calloway (Jordan alexander), is the Blair of the series. She is the Queen of Constance and has worked hard for her brand and her achievements. Unlike Blair, however, she is popular because she is loved rather than feared. Ultimately, although Zoya looks like Dan in the background, she is the Serena of Julien’s Blair – the two being chosen as new victims of Gossip Girl. As Julien tells Zoya in episode 1, “there were these two best friends [Gossip Girl] was obsessed with years ago. It’s a sort of badge of honor that she chose us. Honestly, it’s a great, bold choice for the show to focus on two sisters who really want to hook up, rather than two best friends like in the original.
Another new character, Max Wolfe (Thomas doherty), most closely resembles Chuck Bass from the original series. He is promiscuous, rich and very positive sex and free. However, unlike Chuck, Max is ultimately seen as a mischievous troublemaker, rather than a possible predator or a source of discomfort. In the new reboot, consent and political correctness are brought to the fore. Even though Max is a loving and outgoing character – he’s not as demanding as Chuck, who has at times been criticized for misogyny, unwanted sexual advances, and toxic masculinity. Overall, it’s interesting how Max is Chuck’s mirror – but in a more positive and contemporary way.
The other members of Gossip Girl’s new cast don’t necessarily have specific “roles” that they fit into in the original show. Monet and Luna are considered Blair’s “henchmen” – but even those assistants seem to have a lot more control over the reboot than they did in the original series. As such, the resurrected “Gossip Girl” has a great mix of unique characters and characters that provide a great twist to the originals. And of course, the incredible Kristen bell she herself has returned to reprise her role as the omniscient voice of Gossip Girl.

What to expect in the first season
Just in these first two episodes, several juicy guidelines are introduced that will likely be completed by the end of the season. And keep in mind that the series hasn’t even started to delve into the personal lives and motivations of Monet and Luna – so more is sure to come.
Some of those possible arcs were teased in Episode 1 – like the change of power in Constance St. Jude from Julien to Zoya, either by reputation or the boy between them, Obie. As Julien’s ex-boyfriend and Zoya’s new sweetheart, Obie is sure to cause drama between the two, even if it’s unintentional. With the drama even more proliferated and evoked by Gossip Girl in between sisters, their truces will surely not last long. At the end of the day, the question is who will come out on top.
Second, cross romantic attractions are teased between the characters Audrey (Emilie Lind), Akeno and Max (Evan laughs) – even though Audrey and Akeno have been in a serious relationship for some time. Max, the promiscuous flirtation of the group of friends, is seen repeatedly testing the physical boundaries between the two – particularly in Episode 2, when he kisses Akeno and sleeps with Audrey. Secrets are formed and the lips are sealed. However, the outcome of this debacle is unclear, as it is evident that Audrey and Akeno are drawn to Max as well. Add to that the dying flame of their long-term relationship – and tea is sure to spill out.

Finally, in Episode 2, it is revealed that Zoya left her old school in Buffalo for some mysterious and secretive reason – one that can be exposed in a handy video, now in the possession of Gossip Girl. At the end of the episode, the teacher Kate Keller comments that she hopes that she “will never have to use it”…. But as we already know, these teachers will do anything to stay in control. Within the confines of this small, elite private school, empires will fall and new rulers will take their place. Much like in the OG ‘Gossip Girl’, it will be a battle for power, reputation and control. But this time around, with the teachers involved, there are more parts to the game. Needless to say, the series has had an exciting start, and we can’t wait to see which tea gets spilled.
