Lindsey Graham calls for the assassination of Vladimir Putin

A sitting US senator said Thursday night that it was a good idea to explicitly call for the assassination of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

During an appearance on Fox News host Sean Hannity’s prime time show, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said the only way to end the escalating crisis caused by Russia’s violent invasion of Ukraine is that Putin’s political allies are killing the Russian dictator.

“What’s happening is Putin is looking at Biden, he’s assessed him, he thinks he can get away with it, and he’s going to keep pushing and pushing, and no one in the west is going to stop him. “, exclaimed Graham.

The South Carolina lawmaker then referred to both the betrayal of Julius Ceaser and the failed German attempt to kill Adolf Hitler in 1944.

“How does this end? Someone in Russia has to step in,” Graham told Hannity, who had also mused about a Putin assassination plot the night before. “Is there a Brutus in Russia? Was Colonel Stauffenberg more successful in the Russian army? The only way this will end, my friend, is if someone in Russia gets this guy out! You would be doing a great service to your country and a great service to the world.

Notably, Graham’s bullish remarks came as Fox News aired footage of a massive Ukrainian nuclear power plant burning down following a bombardment by a Russian armored column. The station manager, thankfully, later said that the facility’s radiation protection had been secured and that there was currently no threat of a nuclear disaster.

Moments after appearing on Hannity’s show, Graham decided to tweet the same demands for someone in Russia to kill Putin, once again saying it was the best way to stop the war.

“The only ones who can solve this problem are the Russians,” the pro-Trump senator said. added in a later tweet. “Easy to say, hard to do. Unless you want to live in darkness for the rest of your life, be isolated from the rest of the world in abject poverty, and live in darkness, you must take the lead.

Graham’s remarks quickly drew criticism that spanned the political spectrum. For News host Laura Ingraham, while noting that she “loves Lindsey Graham”, said Thursday night that “it seems really dangerous and stupid” for the senator to tweet an assassination threat.

A Twitter spokesperson has yet to respond when The Daily Beast asked if Graham’s tweets violated the platform’s rules against violent threats and incitement to physical violence.
