Only on News 5: MPD arrests 10 in a prostitution operation

MOBILE, Alabama (WKRG) – Police in Mobile conducted an operation Tuesday, Dec. 21 to combat local prostitution, which they believe may lend itself to other criminal activity.

WKRG News 5’s Gabby Easterwood teamed up with MPD as they targeted prostitution in the city during a day-long operation. They started the day early at around 6 a.m., preparing for a long day at work. They were able to bring in five women accused of soliciting for the purposes of prostitution before 11 a.m. By the end of the day, MPD had made 10 related arrests.

This operation focused around Beltline hotels on I-65 service roads, where Chef Paul Prine says he has received complaints about this type of activity.

“These areas are adjacent to a lot of shopping areas around Springdale Mall, certainly the hotel hallway itself, around the restaurants, so these crimes are affecting the community as a whole, so that was our attempt today. hui to go out and stop what is fueling crime in and around this particular area, ”Prine said.

The first stop was not in the targeted area but in an apartment complex next to University Boulevard. Police made an arrest there – the soliciting woman with a child inside the apartment.

An anonymous operation lieutenant gave WKRG News 5 some details on how they found these targets.

“When we do these operations, we settle in a place that is hidden from the public or people who can pass by and see the assembled cars, and from there we will try to establish communication with the people we are targeting in the operation., “he said.

Finding those targets and establishing that communication can be simple, but it is a long process.

“We’re doing a simple Google search for escorts in Mobile, and I’ll just pick the first one, and that’ll bring you to a list and all of these posts are available for the day and you pick one and make contact,” he said. -he declares

Using this method, they were able to find a woman in a hotel. While waiting for the arrival of the officer, whom she believed to be a client. Four of the five arrests of the morning bite were also found along this line of hotels.

These operations and communications can be long and tedious, but Prine says prostitution can lead to more serious crimes – like violent crime, carjacking, theft and even theft.

Prine says it’s their way of making sure prostitution doesn’t get out of hand in the city, while keeping these other crimes in mind.

“We understand the cry of the community. We understand that violent crime is on the rise, and it’s going to be part of the norm, and we’re going to be tireless in our efforts to tackle this crime, ”Prine said.
