Teachers at government colleges will boycott the internal verification of second-year papers as the University of Himachal Pradesh made a ‘mockery of the system by compromising secrecy’.
Against the HPU Ordinance
The practice is contrary to the ordinance of the university and the spirit of secrecy and the quality of teaching are compromised. —RL Sharma, Gen Secy, HGCTA
In a letter to principals of HPU-affiliated colleges released May 6, the university said second-year BA, BSc, BCom and Shastri answer scripts would be verified at relevant colleges on the third-year model. .
“This practice is against the university’s ordinance and the spirit of secrecy and quality of teaching are compromised,” said Himachal Government College Teachers Association (HGCTA) General Secretary RL Sharma.
Previously, response scripts were assessed at different centers but for three years the practice was discontinued under the pretext of Covid and the assessment of papers from the batch passing this year was done in-house, he added.
The association had submitted a representation, saying teachers would not do the internal evaluation at the college level, but university authorities were disregarding the views of college teachers, the association said.
“We oppose the university’s decision to internally assess the second year at the college level, because many small political leaders at the local level are pressuring teachers and threatening them to assess student work according to their directives. “, said the teachers in a joint statement released by the central executive of the HGCTA.
In addition, the previous payment for the assessment and conduct of theory and practical exams has been pending for three years and despite the fact that the university authorities have increased the exam fees more than 10 to 15 times, the rates of conduct and examination have not been revised. since 2016.
