A young Nigerian woman, Omolara Abiyeye, recounted her ordeal in search of greener pastures abroad.

She revealed that she and others transported to Mali were taken to a shrine where their private hair was shaved as they made a wedding ring.

In a video interview with BBC News Yoruba, she said that despite the spiritual things she was forced to do, she still knew God was the alpha and omega of her life.

The lady added when she was introduced to a boutique job where she would be paid N80k per month overseas, she told the person she had no money to pay for her travel expenses.

The person told her that she didn’t need to worry about it as the cost can be reimbursed monthly when she starts working.

He was told that since the borders were closed, they would have to reach Malaysia through Togo. The lady revealed that after spending several weeks transiting from one African country to another, she realized that they were only cheating on her to get them where they wanted.

The lady said she had met other Nigerians on the way. It was while she was there that she realized that she was being forced into prostitution.

She was told that she had been bought for 500,000 N and that she would have to work and pay back 1.5 million N to gain her freedom. She spent two years then and had paid over 4 million naira before any help came to her.

Another lady recounted her ordeal

During this time, Earlier reported that a young Nigerian woman, Aishat Ganiyu, had recounted her travel experience in Mali.

In a video interview with LegitTV, she said she made the trip because she thought the value for money would be greater there.

Aishat said it was when she arrived in Mali that people who facilitated her trip revealed that she would be working as a prostitute.
