The move comes about two months after the conservative activist and former member of the Family Research Council Joshua Duggar was arrested for receiving and detaining illicit images of child sexual abuse. He faces decades in prison and the (now delayed) trial start in november.
Joshua wasn’t even on the show Counting on, but TLC has clearly had enough of this broken Christian family.
“TLC will not be producing additional seasons of Counting on“the network said in a statement to Us weekly. “TLC believes it is important to give the Duggar family the opportunity to resolve their situation in private. “
More like TLC doesn’t want to be in a business promoting a family with an alleged child molester. Whatever the other Duggars do, it’s not worth the bad publicity. A Change.org petition Calling on the network to sever all ties with the Duggars got nearly 30,000 signatures, though that’s probably not why TLC took the plunge.
Today’s decision is even more striking because the family’s previous show, 19 children and count, has been also canceled due to Josh Duggar sexual abuse scandal. TLC thought they could continue working with the family without Joshua… But his scandals turned out to be too toxic. Without the show, the family lose a major cash cow as well as a major platform for their conservative (harmful) Christian way of life.
The last episode of Counting on aired last September. Everything they’ve filmed since then is unlikely to be shown.
