Two women jailed for forcing a minor into prostitution: the Tribune India

Additional sessions Judge Ashish Abrol sentenced two women, Rekha Rani and Charanjit Kaur, residents of Mallah village, for forcing a minor into prostitution.

They were sentenced to a rigorous prison term of 10 years each. A fine of Rs 30,000 each was also imposed on the convicts. The court said that out of the fine recovered, 25,000 rupees would be paid as compensation to the victim.

In pronouncing the verdict, the court considered that the prosecution had successfully proved the guilt of the accused.

A case against the two women and a Mangal Singh, resident of the village of Mallah, was registered on January 30, 2016, at the Hathur police station following the declaration of the young girl victim. The accused Mangal Singh had already expired.

The girl victim had made a statement to the police at the Jagraon civilian hospital. She had told the police that she had left her home in anger. She came into contact with a girl, who took her to Rekha’s house. After a week the girl returned home but continued to stay there.

The accused began to exploit her by administering intoxicating tablets. She was sent to some people a prostitute.

Subsequently, she was sold to a man from Haryana, who took her with him. He sexually exploited her. A few days later, she was fired. But again, she was sent with another man after taking the money. After a few days, her condition deteriorated and she came to the hospital. She called her grandmother and told the whole story, then informed the police. – OC
